Storekeeper – Food & Commodity Management

About the role

The Storekeeper is responsible for the day‑to‑day custody, receipt, safe storage, stock control and release of World Food Programme (WFP) food and other project commodities at the assigned distribution centre. The role ensures accurate records, applies FIFO/FEFO principles and complies with WVI, WFP, donor, safety, safeguarding and accountability requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and inspect commodities from WVI warehouses, WFP, suppliers or transporters, documenting quantities, condition, and any discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate bin cards, stock cards, ledgers and electronic trackers for every commodity movement.
• Apply FIFO and FEFO principles, monitor expiry dates, shelf life and damaged stock.
• Conduct daily, weekly and monthly stock reconciliations and support spot checks, joint inventories and audits.
• Release commodities only against approved distribution plans, release orders or waybills, and record all issues, returns and adjustments.
• Report losses or discrepancies immediately and retain supporting evidence.
• Secure storage areas, prevent unauthorized access, mixing, loss or diversion of commodities.

Required profile

• Experience in handling food or commodity inventories in a warehouse or distribution centre.
• Ability to follow strict receipt, inspection and documentation procedures.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate record‑keeping and reconciliation.
• Knowledge of FIFO/FEFO inventory principles and expiry monitoring.
• Commitment to adhere to donor, safety, safeguarding and accountability standards.
