Advocacy Officer

About the role

The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression is seeking an Advocacy Officer to support its mission of promoting freedom of expression, human rights and justice in Syria. Based in Damascus, the officer will work closely with the Executive Director and will be required to travel as needed to engage partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence policy and public opinion on media freedom and human rights.
• Prepare policy briefs, position papers, reports and communication materials for national and international audiences.
• Coordinate and represent the organization in meetings, conferences and UN forums.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting freedom of expression in Syria.
• Build and maintain relationships with NGOs, government bodies, donors and media outlets.

Required profile

• University degree in law, political science, communications, international relations or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in advocacy, human‑rights campaigning or media‑freedom work.
• Strong analytical and writing skills in English; Arabic proficiency is essential.
• Ability to work independently, travel within Syria and adapt to a dynamic environment.
