Field SME Advisor & Mapping & Baseline Assessment Officer

About the role

Beacon Consulting & Development seeks a Field SME Advisor and Mapping & Baseline Assessment Officer to work on‑site in Damascus. The role focuses on identifying local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), collecting detailed operational data, and producing actionable insights for program design.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field visits to locate and engage SMEs across Damascus and surrounding areas.
• Design and implement mapping tools and baseline assessment questionnaires.
• Gather qualitative and quantitative data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
• Analyse data, create clear reports, and formulate recommendations for capacity‑building interventions.
• Coordinate with local stakeholders, schedule interviews, and maintain accurate documentation of findings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies or related field (advanced degree is a plus).
• Proven experience in SME advisory, business development, or consulting within a private‑sector development context.
• Strong knowledge of the local SME ecosystem and market dynamics in Damascus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Ability to work independently in field conditions, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheets for data entry and analysis.
• Basic data visualization tools to present findings clearly.
