Humanitarian Mine Action Field Medic - Specialist

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council Syria's Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) programme is looking for a Field Medic - Specialist based in Aleppo, who may be required to deploy to other areas of Syria as the programme's area of operation expands. The role provides on-site medical support to clearance teams, ensures their health and safety through emergency response and preventive care, and provides CASEVAC support for safe and efficient casualty evacuation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on-site medical support to clearance teams and other HMA staff during operations, and accompany mobile teams wherever they are deployed.
• Deliver emergency medical response, including on-site casualty stabilization, and escort casualties to the designated medical facility while completing the required forms.
• Conduct assessments and coordinate with local medical facilities before deployments to set up CASEVAC and medevac plans, and keep contact details of suitable medical facilities up to date.
• Monitor and advise on hygiene, sanitation and disease prevention in operational areas.
• Inspect and manage medical equipment, major trauma kits, supplies and medications, and coordinate with the Medical Coordinator on procurement, storage and maintenance; report shortages, damage or non-compliance to managers.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to secure needed medications and resupply them on time.
• Conduct medical training for DRC staff and partners (e.g. Basic Care Provider and refresher training) and support partner capacity building.
• Support Victim Assistance activities, maintain medical records and incident reports, and help with post-incident analysis and lessons learned.
• Advise supply chain staff on ambulance and medical equipment needs, and oversee the storage and administration of medicines and restricted drugs.
• Engage with local health facilities, authorities and partners to strengthen referral systems and support localization, and coordinate with Operations, Safety, Supply Chain, HR and partners.
• Be prepared for deployment to other operational areas and undertake other tasks assigned by the Operations Manager, Technical Field Manager, Medical Coordinator and Global Medical Advisor.

Required profile

• Certified medical professional (paramedic, nurse or equivalent) with relevant field experience in emergency medical response and trauma care.
• At least 2 years of experience providing medical support in a humanitarian or emergency response context.
• Experience in a hospital emergency room, intensive care unit, ambulance crew or as a military combat medic is desirable.
• Medical Doctor or Bachelor's degree in nursing or Nursing Diploma with 3 years of experience as an HMA Field Medic.
• Valid manual driving licence category A and ability to drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle is desirable.

Required skills

• IMAS Intermediate Care Provider ICP training or equivalent (valid ATLS highly desirable).
• Prior experience delivering medical training is desirable.
• Good MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
