Market Development Manager

About the role

The Market Development Manager will lead the expansion of a regional consumer‑goods business across Syria. Reporting to senior commercial leadership, you will build and manage distribution networks, increase product availability, and drive both primary and secondary sales in a fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a route‑to‑market strategy covering traditional trade, wholesale, key accounts, modern trade and other relevant channels.
• Identify, evaluate, appoint and manage distributors, wholesalers and channel partners, setting clear sales, coverage, inventory and performance targets.
• Expand geographic and channel coverage, opening new territories and increasing outlet presence.
• Set competitive pricing, distributor margins, product assortment, trade terms and promotional plans.
• Monitor competition, consumer demand, pricing trends and market conditions, providing regular forecasts and market intelligence.
• Collaborate with supply‑chain, marketing, finance and regulatory teams to ensure product availability and effective trade execution.

Required profile

• 8‑12 years of FMCG sales, business development or market development experience with proven responsibility for growing markets or territories.
• Hands‑on experience in the Syrian FMCG market, including deep knowledge of distributors, wholesalers, retailers and channel dynamics.
• Demonstrated success in appointing and managing distributors, building networks and expanding outlet coverage.
• Strong commercial capability in pricing, margins, trade terms, forecasting, negotiations and market intelligence.
• Fluent Arabic and professional English; willingness to travel extensively across Syria.
