Sub-National Mine Action Coordinator – South Syria (Seconded to the Mine Action Sector)
Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp · Damas
وصف الوظيفة
About the role
The Danish Refugee Council's Syria office seeks a Sub-National Mine Action Coordinator, seconded to the Mine Action Sector, to support effective, principled and coherent humanitarian mine action coordination at the sub-national level in South Syria. The Coordinator represents the Sector rather than any single organisation and must remain neutral, impartial, independent and transparent. The role does not hold operational authority over Mine Action partners, nor does it direct partner operations or replace national authorities; its focus is cooperation, coordination and representation of Mine Action priorities.
The initial contract lasts six months, subject to funding and developments. The job description may be revised to reflect the impact of the humanitarian reset.
Key responsibilities
- Represent the Mine Action Thematic Working Group in sub-national ISCG, Protection and inter-sector coordination meetings, and keep Mine Action priorities, risks and operational realities visible in area-level planning.
- Provide regular updates on contamination trends, incidents, access constraints and humanitarian needs, and liaise with sub-national authorities.
- Convene and facilitate sub-national Mine Action coordination meetings, prepare agendas, minutes and action points, and promote information sharing and support to partners.
- Maintain two-way information flow with the national Sector team, collect and share data on contamination and incidents, and help partners use 5W reporting and service mapping to identify coverage gaps and overlaps.
- Disseminate national guidance, standards and advocacy messages to field partners, and contribute to humanitarian analysis, mapping and reporting.
- Integrate Mine Action into area-based humanitarian planning, link it with other sectors such as Protection, Shelter, WASH and Health, and support advocacy on access, civilian protection and contamination impacts.
- Notify the national team of significant incidents and support rapid coordination during emergencies, and carry out other tasks assigned by the HMA Operations Manager and Head of HDP.
Required profile
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant humanitarian experience, including supporting or leading coordination among multiple organisations or actors (cluster, sector, thematic working group, inter-sector forum or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to convene and facilitate coordination, build consensus and follow up on collective actions.
- Solid understanding of humanitarian mine action, humanitarian coordination systems, the operational context in Syria and the sub-national government coordination structure.
