Advocacy & Communications Coordinator (Syria)

About the role

As the Advocacy & Communications Coordinator you will design, drive and oversee a comprehensive advocacy and communication strategy that advances Relief International’s humanitarian goals and amplifies the voices of conflict‑affected Syrians. The role bridges program evidence with strategic influence, ensuring all messaging is principled, evidence‑based and aligned with International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the national Advocacy & Communications Strategy for Syria.
• Provide strategic humanitarian analysis and policy advice to senior management.
• Draft and disseminate position papers, policy briefs and key messages grounded in international law and field evidence.
• Represent RI on advocacy platforms, with UN agencies, donors and diplomatic missions.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with donors, diplomatic missions, NGOs and other external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with program, MEAL and area managers to identify advocacy entry points and ensure alignment with program objectives.
• Oversee production of high‑quality communication products, including case studies, multimedia packages and donor visibility materials.
• Manage a small technical team of communications focal points, providing mentorship and ensuring compliance with safeguarding and donor requirements.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Political Science, International Development, Journalism, Law or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in advocacy and communications within humanitarian contexts, with a proven record of high‑level policy influence.
• Deep understanding of the Syrian humanitarian context and Middle‑East geopolitics.
• Strong knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, able to produce strategic communication products.
• Strong interpersonal and coordination abilities to build multi‑stakeholder relationships.
• Arabic language proficiency is desirable.
