CSA Designer (Civil / Structural / Architectural)

About the role

The CSA Designer will provide independent technical review of civil, structural and architectural design deliverables for data‑center facilities. Working on‑site in Damascus, the role acts on behalf of the PMC to ensure designs are code‑compliant, constructible and aligned with project requirements from concept through to Issued for Construction.

Key responsibilities

• Review and assess design submissions at all stages – concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC, shop drawings – and issue structured, actionable comments within agreed timeframes.
• Evaluate structural packages (foundations, slabs, steel and concrete framing, connections) for accuracy, code compliance and suitability for data‑center loads, including raised floors and seismic requirements.
• Assess architectural documents (floor plans, elevations, sections, façade details, finishes schedules) to confirm alignment with functional briefs and space programming.
• Check civil design packages (site grading, drainage, external works, retaining structures, utility trenches) for technical soundness and coordination with building footprints.
• Verify that structural and architectural designs accommodate MEP and ICT/ELV requirements, including plant rooms, equipment pads, penetrations and cable‑tray supports.
• Review BIM models and coordination reports, ensure required LOD is met and clash detection is resolved before IFC issue.
• Track open review comments, evaluate contractor responses, maintain a live register of technical issues, and participate in design review meetings as the CSA technical representative.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Architecture.
• 8–12 years of engineering or design experience in CSA disciplines, preferably on consultancy‑side data‑center or mission‑critical projects.
• Strong knowledge of international design codes (EN 1990‑1994, EN 1997‑1998), BS standards and relevant ISO frameworks.
• Proven ability to interpret and verify structural calculations using analysis software.

Required skills

• Structural analysis tools: ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000 (or equivalents).
• BIM coordination software: Revit, Navisworks.
• Understanding of data‑center specific requirements such as raised‑floor systems, high equipment loads and seismic considerations.
• Ability to produce clear, well‑referenced review comment schedules and technical correspondence.
