Driver – Damascus

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Syria is seeking a reliable driver to support the safe transport of staff, cargo, and official documents. The role is based at the Damascus Country Office and reports administratively to the Representative.

Key responsibilities

• Drive assigned vehicles safely for personnel transport, general cargo, and specialized hazardous goods.
• Deliver parcels, documents, and other items between UN offices, ministries, embassies, and permanent missions.
• Perform minor purchases, collect urgent supplies, and handle customs formalities.
• Receive officials at the airport and assist with immigration and customs procedures.
• Maintain vehicles daily, including checks of oil, water, battery, brakes, and arranging repairs.
• Log trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
• Follow safety and security protocols, obtain necessary clearances, and respond to accidents according to regulations.
• Support data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports or visual materials as needed.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s license and proven experience driving in the Damascus area.
• Strong knowledge of local traffic rules, road conditions, and security considerations.
• Ability to interact courteously with officials, visitors, and UN staff.
• Attention to detail for vehicle maintenance and documentation.
• Commitment to gender equality and UN values.
