Information and Evidence Officer (TJO)

About the role

The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) seeks an Information and Evidence Officer (TJO) to support investigations of serious crimes in Syria since 2011. Based in Damascus, the incumbent will report to the Chief of the Information Systems Management Section and may provide technical advisory support to Syrian transitional‑justice institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, establish and maintain secure evidence‑management infrastructures aligned with international standards.
• Advise on collection, ingestion, preservation, processing and analysis of digital and physical evidence, ensuring forensic integrity and chain of custody.
• Develop data models, taxonomies and metadata schemas to enable efficient retrieval and legal analysis.
• Coordinate eDiscovery protocols, prepare technical documentation and act as administrator of eDiscovery tools.
• Deliver training programmes, workshops and capacity‑building initiatives for internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in information science, computer science, law or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in information management, eDiscovery or related areas.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex criminal‑investigation contexts and familiarity with international legal standards.

Required skills

• eDiscovery tools and the eDiscovery Reference Model (EDRM).
• Programming/scripting languages: Python, JavaScript, Ruby, T‑SQL, VB.
• Database management and SQL.
• Data modelling and advanced information retrieval.
• Experience with data processing platforms (e.g., R) and handling large multilingual datasets.
