Mechanical Engineer – Critical Infrastructure Projects

About the role

This position offers a Mechanical Engineer the chance to support critical water supply, irrigation and building services projects in Syria under a United Nations framework. You will apply fundamental engineering concepts, analyse data and provide first‑level technical guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise installation of mechanical systems for potable water supply and irrigation, including pumps, pipework, valves and related equipment.
• Assist procurement of mechanical machinery and equipment and prepare technical specifications, BOQs and cost estimates for tender documents.
• Design and review mechanical installations for water supply, borehole equipment, HVAC, ventilation, fire‑fighting, sanitary drainage, medical gas and waste‑management systems.
• Perform pump sizing, equipment selection and generate design calculations, drawings and scopes of work.
• Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings and technical material for mechanical and plumbing services.
• Support testing, commissioning, performance verification, training and handover of mechanical deliverables to beneficiaries.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Ability to interpret basic engineering rules and procedures and provide initial technical recommendations.
• Experience supporting specialists and managers in design, review and supervision of mechanical projects.
