Mechanical Engineer – Infrastructure Projects (UN, Syria)

About the role

This position offers a Mechanical Engineer the chance to work on critical water supply, irrigation and building‑services projects within a United Nations framework in Syria. The role combines hands‑on technical support with analytical work to ensure reliable mechanical systems for essential services.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor installation of mechanical systems for potable water supply and irrigation, including pumps, pipework, valves and related equipment.
• Provide technical input for procurement of mechanical machinery and equipment.
• Prepare and review designs of mechanical installations for water, irrigation, HVAC, ventilation, fire‑fighting, sanitary drainage and medical‑gas systems.
• Assist the contract division in drafting and evaluating tender documents, technical specifications, BOQs and cost estimates.
• Perform mechanical calculations, support equipment selection and develop scope‑of‑work drawings.
• Review pump sizing, operating requirements and compatibility with civil/electrical systems.
• Evaluate contractors’ technical submittals and shop drawings.
• Support testing, commissioning, training and hand‑over of mechanical and plumbing deliverables.

Required profile

• Ability to interpret basic engineering rules and procedures.
• Strong analytical skills for data gathering and initial recommendation development.
• First‑level thought leadership in mechanical engineering concepts.
