Registration Assistant – Damascus Area (Daily Paid)

About the role

The Registration Assistant supports UNRWA's registration processes for Palestine refugees in the Damascus area. This daily‑paid position ensures that registration records are accurate, up‑to‑date, and compliant with agency policies.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, check and verify documentation submitted with registration applications.
• Respond to queries from registered persons regarding UNRWA registration.
• Review and approve applications for newborn registrations and deletions of deceased persons.
• Initiate and process registrations for births, deaths, transfers and family splitting.
• Scan and archive required documents in the electronic system.
• Enter, amend and retrieve data in the computerized registration database.
• Print and distribute new registration cards and collect old cards as instructed.
• Maintain orderly index cards for quick access.
• Act on behalf of the Area Registration Officer when absent.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Knowledge of the refugee community and UNRWA relief operations.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong planning, organizing and networking skills.
• Commitment to UN core values of integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity.

Required skills

• Basic computer software proficiency (e.g., office applications, database entry).
• Familiarity with standard office equipment.
