Senior Backend Engineer (PHP)

About the role

Toters is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with a passion for building high‑performance, scalable systems. You will lead the design and implementation of complex backend features while mentoring a growing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own new backend features using Laravel and other technologies.
• Maintain and improve scalable, high‑performance backend services.
• Challenge business requirements and propose optimal technical solutions.
• Drive engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and ensure compliance with best practices.
• Participate in business requirement reviews, assessing complexity, risk, and impact.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, helping define development plans.
• Explore new tools and techniques to boost team productivity.
• Identify and improve existing frameworks, tools, and processes.
• Contribute to roadmap definition and architectural discussions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in Laravel backend development.
• Strong proficiency in PHP (Laravel) and solid knowledge of Java or Python.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and software design skills.
• Hands‑on coder familiar with OOP, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Strong data‑modeling abilities and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
