Cancer Epidemiology Expert (Key Expert – Category II)

About the role

NTU International is recruiting a senior Cancer Epidemiology Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance project for the Syrian Ministry of Health. The expert will strengthen institutional capacity for cancer surveillance, data analysis and evidence‑based policy development.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct descriptive and analytical epidemiological studies using cancer registry and health‑facility data, including incidence, prevalence, survival and trend analyses.
• Perform statistical modelling, age‑standardisation and survival‑analysis using R, STATA, SPSS or SAS, and translate findings into policy briefs and technical reports.
• Assess data quality (completeness, validity, timeliness) and ensure compliance with IARC/GLOBOCAN reporting standards.
• Provide structured, competency‑based training and mentorship to national counterparts to build analytical capacity.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in epidemiological research or disease surveillance, with at least 4 years focused on cancer epidemiology or population‑based cancer‑registry analysis.
• Proven track record of publishing peer‑reviewed articles, technical reports or policy briefs.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in statistical software: R, STATA, SPSS, SAS.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and visualisation.
• Experience with data‑visualisation tools for epidemiological reporting.
