Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert

About the role

The Key Expert – Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert will provide strategic and technical assistance to the Syrian Ministry of Health. The role focuses on developing, harmonising and implementing evidence‑based systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, especially chemotherapy, medication safety, pharmacovigilance and clinical quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and harmonise national and institutional systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, with emphasis on chemotherapy.
• Facilitate consensus‑building among clinical stakeholders on standardised, evidence‑based treatment pathways.
• Strengthen pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety systems for chemotherapy, including adverse‑event reporting and safe‑handling procedures.
• Design and deliver structured clinical training programmes for oncology teams on protocol implementation, treatment sequencing and toxicity management.
• Develop monitoring and evaluation tools to track treatment adherence, clinical outcomes and safety indicators across multiple oncology centres.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification or equivalent specialisation in Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology‑Oncology or Clinical Pharmacology.
• Minimum 10 years of clinical or technical experience in medical oncology, including protocol development or revision.
• Experience supporting ministries of health or national cancer‑control programmes in post‑conflict or early‑recovery settings is strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.
