Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert

About the role

The Key Expert – Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert will provide strategic and technical assistance to the Syrian Ministry of Health, focusing on the development, harmonisation and implementation of evidence‑based systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, especially chemotherapy, medication safety, pharmacovigilance and clinical quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and harmonise national cancer treatment protocols across diverse oncology centres.
• Facilitate consensus among clinical stakeholders on standardised, evidence‑based treatment pathways.
• Strengthen pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety systems for chemotherapy administration.
• Design and deliver structured clinical training programmes for physicians, pharmacists and nursing staff.
• Create monitoring and evaluation tools to track protocol adherence, clinical outcomes and safety indicators.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification in Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology‑Oncology or Clinical Pharmacology.
• Minimum 10 years of clinical or technical experience in medical oncology, including protocol development or revision.
• Experience supporting ministries of health or national cancer‑control programmes in post‑conflict or early‑recovery settings.
• Excellent English communication skills; working knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.

• Pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety for chemotherapy.
• Knowledge of international treatment guidelines (WHO Essential Medicines List, NCCN, ESMO) and adaptation to resource‑constrained settings.
• Design of clinical training programmes and protocol implementation support.
• Development of monitoring and evaluation tools for treatment adherence and safety.
