Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centre Projects (Damascus)

About the role

The position provides independent technical review of electrical design deliverables for data centre facilities on behalf of the PMO. It covers designs from concept through Issued for Construction (IFC), shop drawings and construction support, ensuring they are technically sound, compliant, coordinated and buildable.

Key responsibilities

• Review electrical design submissions at concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC and shop drawing stages, issuing structured comments within agreed turnaround times.
• Check single-line diagrams, HV/LV distribution layouts, switchgear specs, UPS and generator sizing, cable schedules, earthing and protection coordination for accuracy and completeness.
• Verify compliance with the project brief, Employer's Requirements, applicable standards and local authority rules, and document and escalate deviations.
• Assess designs against TIA-942 or Uptime Institute Tier ratings, including N+1 and 2N resilience, and against PUE targets.
• Review coordination between electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, architectural and ICT/ELV packages, and check BIM models and coordination reports for LOD and clashes.
• Maintain a live register of review comments, outstanding issues, responsible parties and closure dates, and follow up consultant and contractor responses.
• Represent the PMO in design review meetings, workshops and BIM coordination sessions, and review material submittals, FAT/SAT procedures and commissioning plans.
• Raise non-conformance records during construction support and monitor corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8-12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in data centres or mission-critical facilities, with a track record in consultancy-side design and technical review.
• Strong knowledge of HV/LV distribution, switchgear, UPS, diesel generators, lighting, earthing, lightning protection and BMS interfaces.
• Sound understanding of data centre rating and Tier requirements, redundancy and PUE benchmarking.
• Ability to interrogate calculation reports and verify design assumptions.

Required skills

• AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, DIALux or equivalent; Revit and Navisworks for BIM coordination, clash detection and LOD checks.
• Knowledge of IEC 60364, BS 7671, NFPA 70/75, TIA-942 and local authority requirements.
• Clear written communication, review scheduling and action registers.
