Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centre Projects (Damascus)

About the role

The PMO needs an Electrical Design Engineer based in Damascus to provide independent technical review of electrical design deliverables for data centre facilities. The engineer ensures designs are technically sound, compliant, coordinated and buildable, meeting the project brief, Employer's Requirements and applicable standards from concept design through to IFC, shop drawings and construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Review electrical design submissions at concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC and shop drawing stages, issuing structured comments within agreed turnaround times.
• Check single-line diagrams, HV/LV distribution layouts, switchgear specs, UPS and generator sizing, cable schedules, earthing and protection coordination for accuracy and completeness.
• Verify compliance with the project brief, Employer's Requirements, standards and local authority rules, and document and escalate deviations.
• Assess designs against TIA-942 or Uptime Institute Tier ratings, including N+1 and 2N resilience, and against PUE targets.
• Identify critical design errors early, track their resolution and prevent them reaching site.
• Review coordination between electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, architectural and ICT/ELV packages, and check BIM models and coordination reports for the required LOD and resolved clashes.
• Maintain a live register of review comments, outstanding issues, responsible parties and closure dates, and follow up consultant and contractor responses.
• Represent the PMO in design review meetings, multidisciplinary workshops and BIM coordination sessions.
• Review material submittals, FAT and SAT procedures and commissioning plans, and raise non-conformance records during construction support.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8-12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in data centres or mission-critical facilities, with a track record in consultancy-side design and technical review.
• Strong knowledge of HV/LV distribution, switchgear, UPS, diesel generators, lighting, earthing, lightning protection and BMS interfaces.
• Sound understanding of data centre rating and Tier requirements, redundancy and PUE benchmarking.
• Ability to interrogate calculation reports and verify design assumptions.

Required skills

• Experience reviewing drawings, models and calculations in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, DIALux or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of BIM coordination in Revit and Navisworks, including federated model reviews, clash detection and LOD compliance.
• Knowledge of IEC 60364, BS 7671, NFPA 70/75, TIA-942 and local authority requirements.
• Clear written communication, able to prepare review schedules, technical correspondence and action registers.
