Field Security Associate

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security is seeking a Field Security Associate to support security operations for United Nations personnel in Qamishli, Syria. Working under the Field Security Coordination Officer, you will help implement security plans and manage safety measures in a complex environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, update and communicate security information, liaising with host‑government authorities, police, military and NGOs.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing the UN Security Plan and support its implementation.
• Monitor implementation of security measures and report incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets.
• Organise and deliver security awareness training and briefings for staff, including orientation for newcomers.
• Maintain administrative records, databases of contacts, and manage pass and ID systems.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent); a university degree reduces required experience.
• At least seven years of experience in security, risk, disaster or emergency management, preferably in public or private security, military, police or corporate settings.
• Fluency in English and Arabic at UN Level II (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
• Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and planning abilities as described in the competencies.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
