Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Technical Advisor

About the role

The MHPSS Technical Advisor provides overall technical leadership for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programming across the Syria Country Office, ensuring high‑quality, evidence‑informed interventions that are integrated across sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of the country’s MHPSS strategic approach, aligning with Save the Children standards and IASC guidance.
• Provide technical oversight, quality assurance and harmonisation of MHPSS tools, approaches and implementation standards across projects and partners.
• Support capacity strengthening of staff and partners through training, coaching, technical supervision and competency‑based development.
• Ensure MHPSS is integrated into Child Protection, Education, Health, Nutrition and other sector programmes.
• Contribute to programme design, concept notes, proposals, budgets and donor submissions, using evidence, needs assessments and stakeholder input.
• Represent Save the Children in national and inter‑agency MHPSS coordination mechanisms and technical forums.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in MHPSS programming, preferably in humanitarian contexts.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership, strategic guidance and quality assurance.
• Strong analytical skills to assess needs, service gaps and contextual developments.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑building skills with donors, NGOs, UN agencies and government bodies.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of MHPSS standards, IASC guidelines and the MHPSS Minimum Service Package.
• Experience in capacity‑building, training design and technical supervision.
• Ability to develop and review programme designs, monitoring frameworks and evaluation tools.
