Protection Officer (Legal Aid)

About the role

The Protection Officer (Legal Aid) will provide direct legal assistance, counseling, and information to individuals and communities in need, supporting the implementation of legal aid activities and upholding protection standards.

Key responsibilities

• Stay up‑to‑date with legislative, administrative and policy developments in Syria related to legal status, civil documentation, family law, HLP rights and labour law.
• Provide legal information and support to crisis‑affected people through individual and group sessions, including assistance with obtaining civil documentation.
• Analyze potential violations of rights, advocate for mitigation of barriers to justice, and support at‑risk groups such as older persons and persons with disabilities.
• Support training of DRC protection staff and other stakeholders on legal issues, human rights and protection standards.
• Develop and disseminate legal information and awareness materials tailored to affected communities.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience providing legal services in Syria, especially to at‑risk clients and refugees.
• University degree in Syrian Law; specialization in international human rights or refugee law is desirable.
• Fluent in English and native Arabic speaker.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Syrian national legal, policy and administrative frameworks.
• Experience with NGO legal aid programming, including counseling and awareness‑raising.
• Ability to conduct trainings on legal matters and to interact with judicial, security and administrative authorities.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract until 30 June 2027.
• Non‑management H2 level position.
• Location: Quneitra, Syria.
