Resource Teacher (ELD) – Damascus High School

About the role

The Resource Teacher for English Language Development (ELD) works under the direction of the High School Principal to provide instructional leadership, support classroom teachers, and foster a professional learning community at Damascus High School.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support departments or subject fields, serving as an instructional role model.
• Observe, analyze, and provide feedback on instructional practices to promote teacher growth.
• Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues on curriculum, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Maintain current knowledge of ELD content and best practices.
• Act as liaison between the school and the central office on subject‑matter and instructional issues.
• Attend required school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• At least five years of successful secondary teaching experience, with three years in ELD and one year in MCPS preferred.
• Maryland state certification in the appropriate field.
• Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching (OAT 1) by the start of the second year and OAT 2 by the end of the second year.

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of instructional strategies and ELD content.
• Ability to work effectively with adult learners in a professional learning environment.
• Strong oral and written communication, organizational, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System standards.
