Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will oversee the accounting activities for Superior Building Materials (SBM) and Superior Post Tension (SPT). Reporting to the Finance Director, this role ensures accurate, complete, and up‑to‑date financial records while guiding the Junior Accountant.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate accounting entries prepared by the Junior Accountant.
• Lead monthly and annual closing processes, including accruals, provisions, depreciation and other adjustments.
• Analyse the general ledger and trial balance, investigating any unusual or outstanding balances.
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet accounts, reconciliations and supporting schedules for the Financial Controller.
• Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable and payable, including ageing and outstanding items.
• Perform bank, cash, inter‑company and balance‑sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Oversee inventory accounting for the building materials business, including stock reconciliations and COGS analysis.
• Track project accounting for SPT, ensuring correct revenue and cost allocation per project.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register, recording acquisitions, disposals and depreciation.
• Prepare tax and statutory compliance schedules and support external audit activities.
• Guide and review the Junior Accountant’s work, identifying recurring errors and ensuring timely, accurate records.
• Coordinate with Treasury, Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse and Project teams to gather complete financial information.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 4–7 years of relevant accounting experience, including hands‑on monthly closing and reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, trial balance, P&L, Balance Sheet, AR/AP, accruals and fixed assets.
• Experience in trading, distribution, construction or project‑based environments is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of inventory and Cost of Goods Sold accounting.
