Fiber Network Planner – Damascus Based

About the role

This position is based in Damascus, Syria and requires relocation. The Fiber Network Planner will design and optimise DWDM and optical transport capacity across backbone, metro and inter‑site links, delivering implementation‑ready documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM/optical transport plans to meet traffic demand, service and IP/MPLS requirements.
• Translate demand into wavelength, channel, OTN and transport capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration, ROADM/OADM usage (including CDC‑F), transponder capacity and power budgets.
• Review existing inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce planning outputs such as wavelength allocation, trail/path records, equipment requirements and migration plans.
• Reconcile planned services with network inventory, circuit records and NMS/EMS data.
• Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Telecom or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Relevant vendor certifications and ITIL Foundation preferred.

Required skills

• DWDM and OTN planning, wavelength and Flex Grid management.
• ROADM (including CDC‑F) and muxponder configuration.
• Multilayer protection knowledge (OLP, ASON, G.8032/ERPS).
• SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP) synchronisation.
• Optical budget calculations, fibre impairment analysis.
• Experience with major optical vendor NMS/EMS and inventory systems.
