Senior Grants Manager – Strategic Portfolio Lead

About the role

The Senior Grants Manager will lead the Syria Education Programme II (SEP II) grant portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment, compliance and impact across a multi‑million‑pound portfolio. Reporting to programme leadership, the role combines strategic design, financial oversight and stakeholder engagement while upholding Chemonics’ ethics and safeguarding standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full grants lifecycle – design, selection, contracting, implementation, monitoring and closure – for a multi‑million‑pound portfolio.
• Develop and enforce grants management strategies, policies and procedures in line with FCDO and Chemonics requirements.
• Coordinate closely with grantees, programme, field, grants and compliance teams to ensure smooth implementation.
• Apply lessons learned, innovations and sector best practices to improve operations and outcomes.
• Serve as the primary contact for funders and external partners, maintaining strong relationships.
• Provide guidance to project teams on grant compliance, delivery and performance.
• Oversee financial management, ensuring responsible disbursement, accurate reporting and adherence to budget.
• Implement financial and administrative controls, review grant packages and financial reports, and prepare payment requests.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large, multi‑partner grant portfolios in international development.
• Strong knowledge of FCDO and donor compliance frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and build capacity among partners.
• Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding, ethics and confidentiality.
