DWDM Planner

About the role

The DWDM Planner will design, plan and optimise Silklink’s DWDM and optical transport network across backbone, metro and inter‑site environments. You will translate traffic forecasts and service demands into wavelength and capacity plans, ensuring robust protection, diversity and synchronization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM and optical transport network plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Convert traffic forecasts, service demands and IP/MPLS requirements into wavelength, OTN, channel and capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, route diversity, regeneration needs and ROADM/CDC‑F architectures.
• Perform optical spectrum planning using ITU‑T grid, Flex‑Grid and Super‑Channel technologies.
• Support multilayer protection strategies (OLP, ASON, G.8032/ERPS) and synchronization planning (SyncE, IEEE 1588v2).
• Review inventory, fiber routes, equipment capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fiber planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce implementation‑ready documentation: wavelength allocations, trail/path assignments, equipment and migration plans.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to optical impairments, capacity limits or equipment incompatibilities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM, OTN or optical transport planning and engineering.
• Strong knowledge of DWDM technologies, optical budgets, fiber impairments and latency.
