Cancer Epidemiology Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a senior Cancer Epidemiology Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance project for the Syrian Ministry of Health. The role focuses on strengthening cancer surveillance, data analysis, and translating registry findings into evidence‑based public‑health policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance on population‑based cancer surveillance, incidence, prevalence, survival and trend analyses.
• Analyze registry data using statistical software, conduct age‑standardisation, survival analysis and visualise results for policy briefs.
• Assess data quality (completeness, validity, timeliness) and ensure compliance with IARC/GLOBOCAN standards.
• Build analytical capacity of national counterparts through structured training and mentoring.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in epidemiological research, with at least 4 years in cancer epidemiology or population‑based cancer‑registry analysis.
• Proven track record of peer‑reviewed publications, technical reports or policy briefs.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in statistical software such as R, STATA, SPSS or SAS.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
• Experience with data‑visualisation tools for epidemiological reporting.
