Driver – Damascus

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Syria is seeking a reliable Driver to support the safe transport of staff, cargo and official documents across Damascus and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

• Drive vehicles safely for personnel transport, general cargo, and specialized hazardous goods.
• Deliver parcels, documents and other items between UN offices, ministries, embassies and other institutions.
• Make minor purchases, collect urgent supplies from local vendors and handle customs formalities.
• Meet officials at the airport and assist with immigration and customs procedures.
• Maintain assigned vehicles – check oil, water, battery, brakes, perform minor repairs and keep the vehicle clean.
• Log trips, mileage, fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance activities.
• Follow accident‑reporting procedures and ensure compliance with security and safety regulations.
• Assist in data collection, preparation of reports and updating informational material such as web pages or brochures.

Required profile

• Professionalism with thorough knowledge of driving rules, local road conditions and security awareness.
• Ability to interact tactfully with officials, visitors and senior staff.
• Good judgment, punctuality and the capacity to work under pressure.
• Commitment to gender equality and UN values.
