Accounts Payable Accountant

About the role

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent, an independent humanitarian organization founded in 1942 and recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross, is recruiting an AP Accountant based in Damascus (Abou Remmaneh). The role covers receiving and reviewing payables documents, processing payable transactions, generating payable balances and maintaining accounting files in line with internal and international controls.

Key responsibilities

• Implement payable accounting policies and procedures.
• Receive invoice data from suppliers, validate it against purchase orders and delivery notes, and liaise with internal departments for supporting documents.
• Review invoices and vendor statements for accuracy and discrepancies, and check that orders and offers comply with payment, purchasing and budget policy.
• Process invoices accurately and record them according to accounting standards, prepare cheques and monitor uncollected ones.
• Monitor pending approvals and aging invoices, and validate documents before processing cash expenses.
• Approve the petty cash replenishment sheet and prepare the payroll journal after obtaining the required approvals.
• Apply controls across accounts payable operations, monitor and analyse the process and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Experience in a humanitarian organization.
• At least 2 years of experience.
• Fluent spoken and written Arabic and English.
