Arabic Editor and Language Specialist

About the role

Chemonics UK is seeking an Arabic Editor and Language Specialist to support the Syria Education Programme II. The role involves adapting, editing, localising and transcreating English‑language technical products into high‑quality Arabic for senior government and education stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Translate, adapt and transcreate English technical reports, knowledge products and communications into Arabic while preserving accuracy and tone.
• Localise programme materials to ensure cultural relevance for Syrian audiences.
• Maintain and update an internal glossary of development and institutional terms in both languages.
• Review and edit translations produced by others or machine tools for consistency and completeness.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Arabic Language, Linguistics or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional editing, translation or Arabic‑content development experience, preferably in international development or humanitarian contexts.
• Native or near‑native proficiency in Arabic and strong written English skills.
• Experience producing Arabic content for senior government, institutional or academic audiences.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience using computer‑assisted translation tools such as Trados, Wordfast or MemoQ.
• Strong attention to detail, grammar, terminology consistency and quality assurance.
