Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a senior expert to support the Syrian Ministry of Health in strengthening cancer treatment governance. The role focuses on developing, harmonising and implementing evidence‑based systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, especially chemotherapy, across multiple oncology centres.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and harmonise national or institutional systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, with emphasis on chemotherapy.
• Facilitate consensus‑building among clinicians to adopt standardised, evidence‑based treatment pathways.
• Strengthen pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety systems for chemotherapy, including adverse‑event reporting and dose‑verification procedures.
• Design and deliver structured clinical training programmes for physicians, pharmacists and nursing staff on protocol implementation and toxicity management.
• Create monitoring and evaluation tools to track treatment adherence, clinical outcomes and safety indicators across oncology centres.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification or equivalent specialisation in Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology‑Oncology or Clinical Pharmacology.
• Minimum 10 years of clinical or technical experience in medical oncology, including protocol development or revision.
• Prior experience supporting ministries of health or national cancer‑control programmes in post‑conflict or early‑recovery settings.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.

Required skills

• Development of systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols (chemotherapy focus).
• Pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety system design for chemotherapy.
• Clinical quality assurance and protocol implementation monitoring.
• Design of structured training programmes for oncology teams.
• Familiarity with WHO Essential Medicines List for cancer, NCCN and ESMO guidelines and their adaptation to resource‑constrained settings.
