CME Design Engineer – Damascus Based

About the role

The CME Design Engineer will create and coordinate mechanical, civil, and electrical‑design content for data‑center facilities in Syria, guiding projects from concept through high‑level design, procurement and construction support. The role leads cooling and HVAC design, integrates tier and resilience requirements, and stays involved through commissioning to ensure the built work matches the approved design.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical, cooling, civil and structural design packages from requirements and high‑level concepts.
• Lead cooling architecture, including containment, free‑cooling assessment for Syrian conditions, chiller and CRAH selection, and PUE target achievement.
• Perform heat‑load, cooling and structural calculations using ASHRAE and standard mechanical methods.
• Coordinate electrical‑room layout, cable routing, equipment placement and facility load schedule with the AC/DC Power Design Engineer.
• Design for unreliable grid conditions, specifying generator runtime, fuel autonomy and water storage for cooling.
• Prepare and coordinate drawings, calculations and specifications in AutoCAD and Revit, resolving cross‑discipline clashes early.
• Apply TIA‑942, Uptime Institute Tier (III/IV), ASHRAE TC 9.9, EN 50600 and relevant NFPA codes.
• Provide technical input for procurement packages and support bid evaluation.
• Review contractor shop drawings, submittals and method statements, issuing NCRs when work deviates from design.
• Support Level 1‑5 commissioning processes, including Integrated Systems Test, and conduct site visits to verify compliance.
• Maintain clear design documentation, calculations and revision records for audit and future reference.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6‑8 years of experience in MEP or building‑services design, including data‑center or mission‑critical facilities.
• Primary expertise in mechanical/HVAC design with ability to coordinate civil and electrical content.
• Practical knowledge of Syrian market conditions and local construction/utility requirements.
• Familiarity with TIA‑942, Uptime Institute Tier framework, ASHRAE TC 9.9, EN 50600 and NFPA codes.
