Fiber Network Planner

About the role

The Fiber Network Planner will design and optimise DWDM and optical transport capacity for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity. You will translate traffic demand and service requirements into detailed wavelength and transport plans, ensuring they are ready for implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM/optical transport plans covering wavelength allocation, channel design, OTN mapping and equipment sizing.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration, and power‑budget constraints.
• Analyse existing inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Collaborate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and rollout teams to align optical designs with physical routes and service needs.
• Produce planning outputs such as trail/path records, equipment requirements, port assignments and migration plans.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecom or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Strong stakeholder management and documentation skills.

Required skills

• DWDM, OTN, ROADM (including CDC‑F) and Flex‑Grid planning.
• ITU‑T grid knowledge and optical spectrum management.
• Multilayer protection concepts (OLP, ASON, G.8032/ERPS).
• SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP) synchronisation.
• Experience with major optical vendor NMS/EMS and inventory systems.
• Vendor optical transport certifications (preferred).
• MEF/Carrier Ethernet or OTN training (advantage).
• ITIL Foundation (preferred).
