Maternal and Child Health Expert

About the role

The Key Expert – Maternal and Child Health will provide strategic and technical support to the Syrian Ministry of Health under an EU‑funded technical assistance project. The role focuses on strengthening maternal and child health services, nutrition programming, and health‑system governance in a humanitarian and early‑recovery context.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Ministry on evidence‑based policies and programmes for maternal and child health and nutrition.
• Support the design, implementation and monitoring of large‑scale health and nutrition initiatives, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and local priorities.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement, including government counterparts, UN agencies and NGOs, to promote coordinated action.
• Review technical programme designs, theories of change and implementation plans, providing actionable recommendations.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in public health, development or nutrition, with a focus on health‑systems strengthening.
• 3–5 years in a senior technical role delivering large‑scale, multi‑partner health or nutrition programmes.
• Demonstrated experience working in Syria’s health sector and understanding of the humanitarian‑development nexus.
• Strong leadership, project management and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
