Medical Project Unit Manager

About the role

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) is recruiting a Medical Project Unit Manager (MPUM) based at its Damascus headquarters. SARC develops special multi-year medical projects with humanitarian partners, and the MPUM supervises the day-to-day work of the project coordinators, plans and directs the unit's administrative requirements, and contributes to the Medical department's policies and procedures. The unit has six direct reports and eight indirect reports.

Key responsibilities

• Incorporate SARC policies and procedures into the unit's operations.
• Monitor and review project activities so they finish on time and within budget.
• Carry out periodic field visits covering training, assessment and evaluation, work planning, technical research and other operational tasks.
• Manage the unit's strategic and financial growth and build good relationships with partners.
• Identify risks, make informed decisions and communicate with the director and higher authorities when needed.
• Prepare project budgets with project coordinators and set up communication and reporting strategies.
• Develop capacity-building plans through training and mentoring, and identify new funding opportunities.
• Coordinate with other units and departments, and handle day-to-day administrative tasks such as processing files.

Required profile

• Degree in medicine, pharmacy or dentistry.
• At least 3 years of experience after graduation; experience with Red Cross or Red Crescent societies is preferred.
• Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English, with the ability to produce reports in both languages.
• Competent in Windows and MS Office programs, and able to work under pressure and tight schedules.
