Protection Assistant – Psychosocial Support

About the role

The Protection Assistant (PSS) will support the delivery of psychosocial services to individuals and communities affected by conflict and displacement in Syria. Working under the Protection Team Leader, the role focuses on promoting resilience, coping mechanisms and well‑being through structured and unstructured activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement individual and group counselling, structured PSS interventions and community‑based psychosocial initiatives in line with DRC SOPs.
• Facilitate awareness‑raising, psycho‑educational workshops and community sessions to strengthen resilience and social cohesion.
• Maintain up‑to‑date referral pathways, coordinate referrals with internal and external service providers, and ensure confidentiality of beneficiary data.
• Collect and report data, provide regular activity updates, and contribute to learning processes for programme improvement.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of relevant experience, including at least one year providing psychosocial support to conflict‑affected populations.
• Strong communication skills with distressed individuals, empathy and professionalism.
• Understanding of humanitarian principles, protection programming and community‑based protection approaches.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or related behavioural sciences.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Comfort with digital data collection tools and basic reporting systems.
