Safeguarding Coordinator (Syria/Yemen)

About the role

The Safeguarding Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of a country‑specific Safeguarding Strategy in Syria or Yemen. Working closely with the country team, the coordinator will mentor field managers, ensure robust detection and reporting mechanisms, and embed safeguarding across programmes and HR processes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safeguarding risk assessments and stakeholder consultations to identify potential risks.
• Develop and monitor a safeguarding action plan with clear indicators, responsibilities, resources, and timelines.
• Design and lead prevention strategies, integrating safeguarding into programme design, HR systems, and emergency responses.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and capacity‑building to staff, partners, and contractors.
• Embed safeguarding requirements into onboarding, codes of conduct, and confidential reporting mechanisms.
• Collaborate with community engagement teams to raise awareness of rights and feedback channels.
• Analyse historical data and barriers to reporting to inform continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safeguarding, protection, or related fields within humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and mentor staff.
• Strong analytical skills to assess risks, trends, and barriers.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities with internal and external stakeholders.
