About the role

The Sterilization Technician will work in the Central Sterile Services Department of a hospital, ensuring that all medical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, disinfected and sterilized in line with established standards. The role supports patient safety by providing reliable sterile supplies to clinical teams.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort and prepare used instruments for decontamination.
• Operate and monitor a range of sterilization equipment, following approved cycles.
• Verify sterilization efficacy using chemical and biological indicators.
• Package, label and store sterilized items to maintain sterility.
• Distribute sterile instruments to the appropriate departments.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterilization area.
• Document all processes, cycles and test results accurately.
• Report equipment malfunctions or any issues that could affect safety.
• Adhere strictly to infection‑prevention, occupational safety and hospital policies.

Required profile

• 0‑2 years of experience in a Central Sterile Services Department or infection‑control setting.
• Strong attention to detail and a sense of responsibility when handling instruments.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work shift patterns as required by the hospital.

Required skills

• Operation of sterilization equipment (autoclaves, washer‑disinfectors, etc.).
• Use of chemical and biological indicators for cycle verification.
• Instrument cleaning, disinfection and sterilization techniques.
• Accurate record‑keeping of sterilization processes.
