Paraeducator Level I – Special Education (10‑month, 7 hrs/week)

About the role

The Paraeducator Level I provides instructional and classroom support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) in general education settings. Working under the principal’s direction, the role focuses on helping students master grade‑level curriculum or alternate academic standards.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate student mastery of curriculum through small‑group or individualized instruction.
• Provide classroom management assistance and related clerical support for teachers.
• Support special‑education services such as Twice Exceptional and Learning & Academic Disabilities programs.
• Continue planned instructional activities during a teacher’s temporary absence.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting objects up to 50 lb and occasional climbing.
• Adapt to flexible scheduling, outside duty, and changes in location or program as needed.

Required profile

• Knowledge of child development and instructional strategies aligned with Montgomery County Public Schools.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform required tasks.
• Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Patience and effectiveness when working with children, young adults, and staff.
• Capability to interact with and support students with special needs.

What we offer

• Hourly wage ranging from $24.38 to $36.67 based on years of service.
• Full‑time, 10‑month schedule with 7 hours per week.
• Grade 13 entry level with promotion to Grade 14 after a six‑month probationary period and required training.
