Mechanical Engineer – Critical Infrastructure Projects

About the role

This position offers a Mechanical Engineer the chance to work on essential water supply, irrigation and building services projects within a United Nations framework in Syria. You will contribute to the design, review and supervision of mechanical systems that support vital public services.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise installation of mechanical components for potable water and irrigation systems, including pumps, pipework, valves and related equipment.
• Assist procurement teams in sourcing mechanical machinery and equipment.
• Design and review mechanical installations for water supply, borehole equipment, HVAC, ventilation, fire‑fighting, sanitary drainage, medical gas and waste‑management systems.
• Prepare and evaluate tender documents, technical specifications, BOQs, equipment data sheets and cost estimates.
• Produce design calculations, equipment selections, drawings and scopes of work.
• Review pump sizing, selection and compatibility with civil and electrical systems.
• Approve technical submittals and shop drawings submitted by contractors.
• Support testing, commissioning, training and hand‑over of mechanical deliverables to beneficiaries.

Required profile

• Mechanical engineering degree with solid understanding of fundamental concepts.
• Ability to gather and analyse data to support specialists and managers.
• Experience interpreting technical rules, making initial recommendations and preparing report inputs.
• First‑level thought leadership in mechanical engineering for infrastructure projects.
