Cancer Epidemiology Expert for Syrian Ministry of Health Project

About the role

NTU International is seeking a highly qualified Cancer Epidemiology Expert to support a EU‑funded technical assistance project for the Syrian Ministry of Health. The expert will strengthen institutional capacity for cancer surveillance, data analysis and evidence‑based policy development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance in population‑based cancer surveillance, statistical analysis and translation of registry data into public‑health policies.
• Collaborate with cancer registry, health planning and digital transformation teams to ensure data inform national cancer‑control strategies.
• Design and conduct descriptive and analytical epidemiological studies, including incidence, prevalence, survival and trend analyses.
• Assess data quality (completeness, validity, timeliness) and align reporting with IARC/GLOBOCAN standards.
• Build analytical capacity of national counterparts through structured training and mentoring.

Required profile

• Master's degree or PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in epidemiological research or disease surveillance, with at least 4 years in cancer epidemiology or population‑based registry analysis.
• Proven track record of peer‑reviewed publications, technical reports or policy briefs.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in statistical software such as R, STATA, SPSS or SAS for analysis, modelling and visualisation.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel and data‑visualisation tools for epidemiological reporting.
• Experience with age‑standardisation, survival‑analysis methods and registry‑derived data.
