Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert (Key Expert – Category II)

About the role

The project provides technical assistance to the Syrian Ministry of Health to strengthen institutional capacity and governance. The Key Expert – Cancer Treatment Protocols Expert will lead the development, harmonisation and implementation of evidence‑based systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, focusing on chemotherapy, medication safety, pharmacovigilance and clinical quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and harmonise national or institutional systemic anti‑cancer therapy protocols, with an emphasis on chemotherapy regimens.
• Facilitate consensus‑building among clinicians, pharmacists and nursing staff on standardised, evidence‑based treatment pathways.
• Design and implement pharmacovigilance and medication‑safety systems for chemotherapy, including adverse‑event reporting and dose‑verification procedures.
• Create structured clinical training programmes for oncology teams on protocol implementation, treatment sequencing and toxicity management.
• Develop monitoring and evaluation tools to track treatment adherence, clinical outcomes and safety indicators across multiple oncology centres.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification or equivalent specialisation in Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology‑Oncology or Clinical Pharmacology.
• Minimum 10 years of clinical or technical experience in medical oncology, including direct work on national or institutional chemotherapy protocols.
• Experience supporting ministries of health or national cancer‑control programmes in post‑conflict or early‑recovery settings is strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.
