Materials Specialist

About the role

The Materials Specialist oversees procurement assurance, inspection, tracking, and site management of all materials and equipment for data centre and technical building projects. The role ensures that only approved, specification‑compliant items are used and that material records are accurate throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end material control workflow, including submittal review, approval tracking, procurement scheduling, delivery logistics and site receipt verification.
• Maintain a comprehensive Material Submittal Register (MSR) from initial submission through approval, delivery and installation.
• Review technical data sheets, test certificates and compliance declarations against project specifications and standards.
• Coordinate with Design Manager and discipline engineers to confirm material suitability.
• Conduct and witness inspections of structural steel, cable management systems, LV switchgear, UPS equipment, precision cooling units and ELV/ICT infrastructure.
• Monitor material pull schedule, flagging procurement delays that could affect the critical path.
• Implement site storage and preservation plans for critical equipment, ensuring manufacturer requirements are met.
• Process delivery notes, inspection certificates, test reports and FAT documentation to maintain full traceability.
• Issue Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non‑compliant items and track corrective actions.
• Align material receipt inspections with ITPs and witness points in collaboration with QC teams.
• Maintain surplus materials register and manage disposal or return of unused items at project close‑out.
• Prepare weekly material status reports highlighting critical items, delivery risks and required actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Proven experience in material control, procurement coordination or construction material management.
• Strong understanding of construction specifications, standards and quality assurance processes.
