Nutritionist – Emergency Response (Al‑Bab, Syria)

About the role

The Nutritionist will join MedGlobal’s Nutrition Team in Al‑Bab, supporting emergency nutrition interventions for vulnerable populations, including children under five and pregnant or lactating women. Working under the supervision of the Admin Officer, the role focuses on rapid assessment, case detection, and therapeutic feeding coordination during crises.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct nutrition surveys among children and pregnant/lactating women to assess nutritional status.
• Identify and register cases of acute malnutrition using MUAC and other anthropometric measurements.
• Admit eligible individuals to the therapeutic feeding program and ensure proper follow‑up.
• Prescribe and distribute therapeutic or supplementary nutrition products according to protocol.
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, admissions, and distributions.
• Provide training and capacity‑building to community health workers and partners on nutrition screening and treatment.
• Collaborate with the broader health and emergency response teams to integrate nutrition activities into overall humanitarian operations.

Required profile

• Relevant degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health or a related field.
• Experience working in humanitarian or emergency settings, preferably with children under five and maternal nutrition.
• Ability to conduct anthropometric measurements and interpret nutrition data.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record‑keeping.
• Fluency in Arabic and basic English communication.

Required skills

• Anthropometric assessment (MUAC, weight‑for‑height, height‑for‑age).
• Knowledge of therapeutic feeding protocols (e.g., RUTF, F‑75/F‑100).
• Data collection and reporting using standard nutrition tools.
