Part‑time Remote Medical Coding Specialist

About the role

This part‑time remote position is responsible for assigning accurate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures and services in line with current coding guidelines and payer requirements. The specialist reviews clinical documentation, queries providers when needed, and ensures coded data supports compliant billing and reimbursement.

Key responsibilities

• Assign appropriate ICD and CPT codes to clinical documentation.
• Review and validate documentation for completeness, query providers for clarification.
• Enter and maintain coded information in health information systems.
• Perform quality checks, audits and stay updated on coding standards.
• Collaborate with health information management and billing teams while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Required profile

• Strong medical coding experience with proven ability to apply codes accurately.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and health information management practices.
• RHIT or equivalent certification, or actively pursuing such credentials.
• Familiarity with ICD, CPT, HIPAA regulations and EHR platforms.
