About the role

The Response Director, Syria Response leads World Vision’s humanitarian and recovery programmes across Syria and Jordan, while also overseeing strategic opportunities in Türkiye. Based in Damascus, the role drives a high‑impact, well‑resourced response in a complex, rapidly changing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Syria Response Senior Leadership Team and implement the FY27‑28 strategy.
• Coordinate multi‑country portfolios, unlocking efficiencies and leveraging cross‑border synergies.
• Maintain oversight of programme quality, scale, and innovation across Syria, Jordan, and Türkiye.
• Engage and influence external stakeholders, including host governments, donors, and partners.
• Ensure compliance with World Vision’s Disaster Management Standards and Enterprise Risk Management framework.
• Manage a multi‑million‑dollar budget and oversee risk management and operational integrity.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 + years in leadership roles with international NGOs in emergency relief, rehabilitation, or transition programming.
• University degree or equivalent qualification relevant to team or project management.
• Proven experience leading multicultural teams in politically and culturally sensitive contexts.
• Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, standards, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑management skills with senior stakeholders.
• Politically astute with diplomatic experience dealing with governments, donors, and staff.
• Willingness to travel 35‑40 % to field locations in Syria and Jordan.
