Structural Engineer

About the role

This position offers a unique chance to apply core structural engineering principles within a humanitarian and development setting, supporting critical infrastructure projects in Syria. The engineer will work closely with project specialists to gather data, interpret standards, and ensure high‑quality construction that enhances community resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse structural components for water supply and irrigation infrastructure, including pumping stations, storage facilities, foundations, reinforced‑concrete and steel structures.
• Prepare and review design briefs, calculations, specifications, bar‑bending schedules and other technical documents to meet client requirements and international codes.
• Conduct structural assessments, design reviews and provide technical support throughout project implementation.
• Perform site inspections, assess construction quality and produce inspection reports.
• Support the development of QA/QC procedures, monitor delivery of design documents and coordinate with architects, quantity surveyors and other engineers.
• Research and recommend appropriate technologies, techniques and design approaches for inclusion in project plans.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in designing reinforced‑concrete and steel structures for water‑related projects.
• Familiarity with international standards and codes of practice applicable to humanitarian infrastructure.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
