Telecom Engineer

About the role

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent is recruiting a Telecom Engineer based in Damascus (Abou Remmaneh). The engineer designs, installs and maintains telecommunications systems and networks, supports procurement and vendor evaluation, and provides emergency communications support for staff security. Key responsibilities

• Design, install, test and commission radio networks, WAN networks, IP PBX and VSAT systems.
• Draft specifications and standards for telecommunications equipment and support procurement evaluations and vendor testing.
• Set performance standards for equipment and services and recommend improvements to service quality.
• Support the rapid set-up of communications infrastructure from scratch at local and wide-area levels, including visits to regional sites and branches.
• Provide emergency communications capabilities for staff security.
• Collaborate with HR on training modules and present on telecommunications networks and equipment.
• Supervise staff and technicians in HQ and branches and perform other related duties.

Required profile

• Graduate in telecommunications engineering from an accredited university.
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar position.
• Ability to travel to all Syrian governorates and a valid passport.
• Good English and strong general computer and network knowledge.
• Analytical, organized, responsible and able to work independently; flexible under stress.

Required skills

• Telecommunications: VHF, HF, VSAT, PBX, telephony.
• Enterprise networking: wired and wireless, TCP/IP, switching, routing, SD-WAN, SD-LAN.
• Able to write clear reports, procedures and quality documents.
