Country Director – Syria

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking a senior leader to head its Country Office in Syria. The Country Director will provide strategic direction, ensure high‑quality programme delivery and represent the organization in a highly complex humanitarian environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set vision and direction for the Syria country programme and lead the senior management team.
• Analyse socio‑economic, humanitarian, security and political trends to adapt strategy.
• Attract, retain and develop high‑calibre staff, ensuring compliance with HR policies and local labour law.
• Oversee a $35 million budget, driving financial accountability and performance against targets.
• Lead programme design, implementation and monitoring, ensuring alignment with technical best practices, humanitarian standards and MEAL systems.
• Represent Save the Children with donors, government authorities, partners and media.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programmes, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven track record managing large budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to navigate complex security environments.
• Fluent English (essential); Arabic desirable.
